2Mark SalisburySoftware Engineer, citizensforalibrary.org creatorLibraries are a great resource for everyone. You can get many great things at libraries - including books! We love reading in our family. Libraries provide awesome spaces to use and enjoy. They provide programs for youngsters and adults. All parts of Boise deserve access to a library - close enough to walk or bike to. Let's bring a library to West Boise while there is still space available.
3Jennifer FroererMother of five girlsWhen I moved to Boise, I was floored by the amazing library set-up. The combination of the cities and county working to provide accessibility to all materials using just one library card, and the satellite libraries providing easy access to a library all over the city was a welcome surprise! Over the years I've been saddened, however, that even with such a system, my family does not have the same access as most of the others in the city. I strongly urge the city to prioritize equal access to services and build a library in West Boise. As my family has grown, it becomes more and more difficult to get to a library, given the time and distance involved. I know my older children would love a library close enough to walk out bike to, so they could spend more time there (even when I'm busy doing laundry.) McDevitt Park seems like a perfect solution to both make use of the undeveloped city space and fill the library desert.
4James PhillipsHusband and father of four children“Libraries store the energy that fuels the imagination. They open up windows to the world and inspire us to explore and achieve and contribute to improving our quality of life. Libraries change lives for the better” – Sidney Sheldon
5Melanie JonesSoftware Engineer, mother of three, west Boise resEvery time I fill out a survey from the city of Boise I express how badly we need a library out this way. The Walgreens near Chinden and Eagle had set empty for years now and would be a great spot, or near the West YMCA in the parking area that sits unused near Brookdale Meadows neighborhood.
6Gary DufaultOld folks who love what libraries provide.I have made several visits over the past few months to the libraries in Ada County and Ustick and Cole Rd. I was really impressed by all that was available at each. It's almost five miles exactly from our home driveway to "The Library" at Ustick and Cole Rd. This is an unreasonable distance to travel to a library when virtually all of the rest of Boise has much more accessible facilities. It's time to put a library in west Boise!
7Vonnie DufaultGrandparents need libraries for visiting grandkidsWe have grandchildren visit in the summer. We shouldn't have to drive five miles across Boise to take them to a library. West Boise needs a library too!
8Bryan and Keiko NeufeldSoftware engineers that love librariesWe both love reading, and use the digital services that the Boise Public Library provides. We'd like to take advantage of the physical resources as well, but there's not a library that's convenient for us to get to on a regular basis. We'd love to have a library that's easy to walk/bike to.
9Jennifer R. GravelMother, grandmother, life-long library cardholderLibraries even the "playing field" for citizens providing access to books to families that cannot afford to buy books. They are invaluable resources for citizens of all ages. For nearly 20 years I worked in children's publishing, selling books to families and public libraries, and supporting literacy and fundraising for school libraries. Through that work, I heard countless stories about how access to books changed lives. We know that access to books and choice is a key to developing reading skills in those learning to read and a library is the best place to provide that for families. West Boise needs a branch library closer than 4 miles for all residents but especially those without independent transportation.
10Claire Salisbury2029 Graduating Class - Huge BookwormI love to read! I love libraries, and they have almost every book you can think of. They have even more than books too. Libraries are at least 5 miles away from where we live, so mom only goes occasionally. I wish we could go more. I love libraries!
12Tammy RamptonMother of 4 reading junkiesMy family loves going to the library. We used to walk to the library in Garden City several times a week. When we moved to West Boise several years ago, going to the library became much more difficult because there wasn't one near by. We still love the library but can only go once or twice a month now due to the locations being too far away. I would love a library in West Boise.

15BrendanHigh school studentA library would be a great addition to west Boise, as a place to learn and have fun.
16Corbett JacksonCommunity member I think a library specifically in our community would be great!
17Christina JacksonMother of 4 kids
19Eve RamptonThe girl who loves booksall of the library are very far away and very inconvenient to go to, so one close by would encourage reading and would help younger people be intrested in reading.
20Jeremy RamptonFather of Four. Therapist. 10 Year Boise Resident. My kids love the library, but because it is a long distance from the library...it really limits my kids ability to go. We are in a library dead zone between Boise and Meridian. Please Help.
22Amy Vogelsberg Mother of 5 Volunteer at elementary school libraryMost of my adult life I have been able to walk to the library. I have fond memories of putting my babies in the stroller and walking to story time.. I still use the library weekly but definitely have to make a special trip as all the libraries are out of the way. There are so many great resources at the public library and there are many people that don't utilize it because id the location.
24Crystal CombsHomeschool Mom of Four ChildrenAs somebody who currently lives in the middle of the library "donut", I feel like our community would hugely benefit from a new library near Eagle and McMillan. There is currently so much unused space at McDevitt Park, which would be a perfect location! Currently our family has four children that we homeschool, and my oldest two are avid readers. I can hardly keep up with supplying the books they want to read! Unfortunately we live approximately 15 minutes away from every public library in the area, which makes it hard at times to keep the boys supplied with good reading material. Although we reside and pay taxes in Boise, we actually spend very little time in Boise libraries since they are so inconvenient for our family. We are asking the City of Boise to please consider investing resources in a new library near us so that our children and the rest of the community can benefit from the services that are easily accessible to the rest of the city!
26Amanda SalisburyMom of Five, BS in Mechanical EngineeringI think libraries are a great resource for learning and a sense of community. My kids love to read. If we had a library closer to us, I would be inclined to take them more often which would help deepen their love for reading and learning. I also love that libraries are a great recourse for early literacy with great programs for younger kids (and everyone). Having lived in this part of Boise for the last 15 years I have always thought it would be great to have a library closer that we could easily access. I would love to see this happen!
27Alison MichaelsMother of 9 year old, telecom VP of SalesPlease add a new library!
28Maren HansenMother of two avid book readers!I have two young children that love to read and attend classes at our libraries. Having one closer would be amazing!
30Beverly HaglundI'm retired and love the library.I would love to see a library near the west YMCA, it would be a wonderful addition to West Boise. I am retired and I use the Eagle Library now but would love to have one close to home. I rent movies and love their actives as well as the Books.
32Sheryll SharpEducator who never stops learning!I am a mother, parent, friend and educator, who believes that community access to libraries is a basic human right, free and easily accessible to all!

59John cliffordA library in this area would be an incredible investment and I fully support this initiative
60Stephen HuntOur family loves the library!!
61UrsulaLogotherapy StudentLibraries are so important for everyone, we need to keep learning and growing, not only as professionals but as people too.
105Amy StroudEnglish Literature StudentLibrary accessibility is extremely important for communities. Building a library in West Boise will allow community members to have convenient access to information and utilize all the resources a library has to offer. Libraries also support education and would create a hub for students of all ages in this area to have a place to study and access academic materials. Another great reason is that a library in this location would provide a neutral community gathering space. There aren’t many establishments for community members to spend their time in without the expectation of spending money and having a convenient accessible library in West Boise would provide these community members with a place to connect and engage in community activities
106Katie BishopTeacher and children want libraryI would love to have a library closer to my house for myself and my three younger kids.
111Elizabeth DrewettFormer teacher and current nanny that LOVES to cheI live near the Village and lack for no services, shopping, or church. However, I am a huge user of the library and would LOVE to have one near me!!
112Balenda SnowNursing School Faculty We are a family of avid readers who spend way too much on books. It would be nice if there was a library closer to us. None of the locations are really convenient for those of us in the “hole”.
121Shawn pugelWe desperately need a library

133Kristin MerrenMom, business owner, wife, and lover of all books!Having a library less than 20 minutes away, depending on traffic, would be amazing! As a family of 4 we love reading and going to the library. But finding the time when one isn’t close isn’t always easy. We find ourselves scheduling library time instead of just going to enjoy our time. My best friend growing up was the town librarian. I’m not even joking m. She the town librarian in Athol, Idaho is the reason is read over 100 books every year. She was the best! Some of my best memories of summers spent at the library reading all sorts of books and going on adventures . I would love this for my daughters! Our oldest is 11 a writes stories all the time and has aspirations of being an author. Her sister just graduated kindergarten and is a reading wizard! Please build a library in West Boise. Sincerely, A mom with a love of reading and two daughters that love it just as much
136Tammy HeintzHomeschooling ParentWould be great if there were a public library close to Kliener Park and the Village. So many neighborhoods with students surrounding that area making it walking distance which in turn help with traffic and pollution.
137Andrew J JohnsonRetired City Employee The lion’s share of all City services go to every where but the West Bench.
138Da'nell CannonMrs. Cannon; Mother of 5 children; violin teacherWe have loved using libraries over many, many years--we took our children weekly to the library when they were growing up. Libraries are important to communities--they can help raise the level of education and foster life-long learning of both children and adults. West Boise is a vibrant community of many wonderful families who would benefit greatly from having our own library!! Please build one in West Boise!
145Monique BosseMom of 3 School Age Kiddos
147Charity BateMother of 7 I Love to bring my kids to the library and loved being able to go myself as a child riding my bike to the library. I want one closer and would use it more if one was closer. Please!!! Let’s get a library in West Boise!
152CamilleEx-library user because of proximityI know if there was a library closer I would use it more. I have four school-aged children so it would be a great benefit to our family. Please consider putting s library In the proposed area.
153Pam Hartnett Retired and grandmother of 18, we need this!Been living in West Boise over 27 years and have always wondered why we have to go so far for a Library! Thank you for addressing this!
154Michael CivielloRetired Teacher/MusicianMy wife and I are at the Eagle library at least every two weeks. The old HP campus on Chinden would be a great place for a library because of the ease of access and parking.
188Tommi AndersonMother of 5We use the library and its services almost weekly and we love them. I want all children to have the wonderful benefits of having a library near by!
189Amy FirkinsMother of 4 children
191Katelyn MarshallMom of special needs kidsUnfortunately, we don't go to the library more than a few times a year because of the inconvenience of the drive. My child NEEDS more variety and reading opportunities though.
193Krista HegstromLove reading and enjoying librariesWe moved to west boise from meridian and have missed having a library nearby! It would be so nice to be able to just drop by somewhere close to our house. I have 3 kids and they love going and picking out books!
196Venessa MurrayMother of 3 book nerdsWe love the libraries and frequently visit cherry ln, Ustick & Cole, and collister. We have 3 young children who would benefit from a closer location with youth activities.
199Paula von LindernLibraries are vital to a neighborhood. The services provided to the patrons are necessary to keep them informed, entertained, and knowledgeable about events happening in their community. I’m a retired teacher and there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing someone pick up a book and get lost in the written word.
219Laura WatsonBusy Mom- college student, self employed, mom of 3My kids and I love the library but all too often , we just dont get there enough because of traffic & the time it takes to travel across town. We are super busy -- school, work, activities-- all around the West Boise area (Eagle/Ustick area) so our schedule doesnt always fit in going out of the way to Meridian library. It would be a dream to get a library closer.
221Jayne larsonMother of young children
222Darci HillMother of 4 voracious readersWe have 4 children who love to read and would LOVE A library that was within bike riding distance! We travel weekly (or more)15 minutes by car to any library!
224Jennifer Redford 4th generation Idahoan; Born & raised in Boise Everyone in Boise should have quick, easy access to a library.
225Valerie AndersonMom of 6 and writerI have 6 kids. My oldest, 20, has Autism and is gifted. She reads something like 240 pages an hour. It’s her favorite thing to do. Every time we go to the library she brings the biggest backpack she can find and loads it up with 40+ books. Then a week later she’s begging to go to the library again. It’s hard to keep up with when a trip to the library is such a big undertaking, having to go all the way to Cole Ustick. My daughter doesn’t drive. Giving her a bit of independence would be great- to have her able to bike or walk a short distance on her own whenever she’s ready to get more books would be amazing. I’m also not into buying books. I just don’t have money for it. So I’m a patron of the library and read anywhere from 70-150 books a year. I’m also a writer. It would be wonderful to have a space to go to close by for that.
227Teresa EyreWonderful AdditionThe library would be a great addition to the area proposed, which is near me. It only makes sense to let the residents in the area have these benefits. I am a mother of grown children that now have children if their own. When my kids were younger, I would go to the Eagle Library or Meridian Library .And also the Boise Library. All which I had to drive quite a ways to. My grandchildren that now live in this area will benebenefit now. I also enjoyed, as an adult checking items out.
242Don LarsonIn high school (Silverton Oregon) I often skipped school to go to the library in Salem and explore my interests (I know, it was wrong but I graduated, went to college and did well and eventually became a dentist). I love books and feel that there is a true need for resources that are offline.
244Diane LewerI am a mother and grandmother
245Anne SorensenLibraries are accessible to all. Raises literacy.Would love a library and post office in the old Rosauers building!!! Much needed!

324Christa WalkerMiddle School Music TeacherWhen my three children were very small, Star Library was a haven for our family. When I needed to get out of the house, we walked to the library to find music, books, and videos while the youngest played and made friends with the community play area. When we moved to Boise, the Cole Library was lovely, but not within walking distance. I would love to have a library in walking or biking range for our youth and our young families. I think it could become a community hub that unites all generations, actually.
341Mallory SullivanA high school student, Renaissance High School
354Judith RoesberyAvid reader and longtime fan of libraries Everyone should have a library near them. I am fortunate that I can walk to the Garden City Library. There is a large “library desert” in Meridian. I hope this petition will spark enough interest that a library can be built in this underserved area.
355Jamie Hegstrom Libraries service the area I love and have greatly enriched our families experience. A mother of three, the library is the first stop we make at the beginning of summer and is a part of so many other memories and yra
367Jamie Richmond2nd generation Idahoan (Treasure Valley) Mom of 2Garden a city library has made a huge difference in my kids’s lives and our family. I hope the families and citizens in west Boise can have a neighborhood library to help their neighborhood thrive.
368Audrey RichmondAccounting and finance student, Boise StateLibraries have always been an extremely important place in my life. Having a library near me allowed me to walk or bike to it and have the ability to read books I wouldn’t have had the chance to otherwise. I was also able to participate in events and gain another safe community in my library, and I can’t imagine what my life would be like without having the opportunities that my library provides me. Even now, the library is a nice place for me to check out books and get involved in my community so I can spend my free time the way I truly want to.
372Veronica RichmondBiology & Advertising Student, University of MiamiAs a resident of Garden City, I've always had access to a nearby library. I would bike over and check out or return a few books, have a picnic in the lawn, and go to a variety of interactive events, lessons, speeches, and programming. I love our Library! and West Boise citizens should also get their own Library!
373Erica SmithReader and lifelong learnerI love the library and want everyone in my community to have easy access to the fun and knowledge that a library can provide. Education and literacy are critical components of society.

531Jennifer GreenTeacherI'm very excited at the possibility of another library! It's a great place to go for students to use resources as well as get advice and suggestions from the librarian on books. There are also great programs that happen in the program room. For example, the summer one skippers came to a library recently, and put on a performance. There was a huge crowd with mostly children. What an inspiration!

601Jim27 years without a library! We have lived in West Boise for 27 years and would have loved a library nearby! When my children were young, I had to pack them up and travel across town to be able to get to the nearest library. Many times, even though my kids wanted to go to the library, I just couldn’t take the time to drive that far with infants and children! it also led to a lot of overdue books and videos because it was so hard to get to the library! I have been wondering for 27 years why west Boise is an island with no libraries on it! My daughter just had my first grand baby so I would love to be able to have a library built in West Boise, so I could finally take the next generation,!

687Mrs. Deana BradenRetired TeacherThere are many school-aged children in West Boise, and they would greatly benefit from having a library close by...especially in the summer or during holidays. Some are home all day while parents are at work. If a library was within walking distance, or could be reached by bicycle, they would have access to books, videos, computers, etc. They could even walk there with a babysitter. Right now, a library for these children are more than four miles away, on busy roads, from a library.

872MeDynn CallMother of 3 kids and teacher.I am at the library 2-3 times a week for classes, activities, and books. I live in West Boise but have to drive to Meridian or Eagle to attend a library. A great location would be in the empty lot next to McDevitt Park off Eagle Rd and McMillian.
876Robert LeavittLong-time West Boise residentAs long time residents of West Boise and frequent users of libraries, we think it's time for our area to have a library. We have been paying taxes the same as other Boise residents but we don't enjoy the same access to those resources as other areas of the city.

952Gloria ChavierWe’ve been visiting library at cole, would love to be able to walk to a library, especially if it were near a coffee shop. The older two have their first library cards this summer and are excited to get new books each week. The younger two love storytime, so having programming at a new branch would also be important.

966Courtnie DawsonConcerned auntie of a future bookwormI live right in the heart of the "dead zone" for libraries. My niece lives in the same household, and for her to be a part of a summer reading program will be difficult -- when I was around her age, my family had to drive all the way out to Victory road to access the library's resources. While she's lucky to have the Garden City branch to make for a shorter drive, it's still a bit of a commute. I would love to be able to have a library within walking distance so that when she is old enough, we can walk or bike to the library and she can develop the passion for reading that I have enjoyed all my life.

978Samuel Valdez RuizLocal Business OwnerA public library is a foundational pillar in a community. Sometimes these sort of places are referred to a third space, one away from home, and one away from work. A third where it is not a bar, or a outside location under the elements. Somewhere where the community can come into and escape the sometimes monotonous strain of the buzzing of the city. The importance of walkability and accessibility of the locality - and how even one more makes that much more a difference and impact on our younger generations. The first thing we are thought to affect the trajectory of our personal navigation of life is literacy. West Boise would needs more attention. I am happy to see that this is on the table and to support in any way I can.

987Grant T. BurgoyneFormer library ambassador, 46 year Boise resident. All sections of Boise deserve to be treated equitably regarding libraries and other infrastructure. Libraries are particularly important in bringing members of the community together and providing them the resources necessary to becoming educated and informed citizens. A free-standing library branch in West Boise is needed and will serve the community well.
