Student Voices

The west side of Boise is far from a public library. Right now, Boise city leaders are creating a 20-year plan for library facilities and deciding whether to add a new library branch in West Boise.

Public libraries are a great place to learn, read, and connect as a community.

We want students to have a voice in this decision!

What can students do?

Step 1: ✏️Draw a picture / write a letter

a. Address a city leader

Use the following list to determine who to address. If your child wants to create multiple pages, they are more than welcome to do so!

If your birthday is in… Please address Position
January Luci Willits City Council
February Colin Nash City Council
March Kathy Corless City Council
April Jordan Morales City Council
May Meredith Stead City Council
June Jimmy Hallyburton City Council
July Jessica Dorr Library Director
August Ron Pisaneschi Library Trustee
September Nikki Trammel Pantera Library Trustee
October Evelyn Johnson Library Trustee
November Reshma Kamal Library Trustee
December Brian Klene Library Trustee

There are only 12 months in the year, so we left out Mayor Lauren McLean.

If you make a 2nd page, please address it to Mayor McLean!

b. Create your artwork / letter

You could draw a picture of a library building. You could write about why libraries are cool, or a book you love. Say in some way that you would love to see a new library branch in West Boise.

If you’d like to start from a template, you can find some here: https://www.citizensforalibrary.org/west-boise/coloring-pages

c. Sign / write your name (first name only is OK, put your age too)

Step 2: 📅Return the page(s) by March 25th April 15th

Return this information and the artwork / letter:
